Letter from a concerned grandparent Although I've been sober for over eleven years, alcohol still hurts me. For I've lost a loved one in an alcohol related accident over eleven years ago. Seeing people both young and old under the influence still brings back sad memories of the tragic day we lost our beloved son. I know this also happens to others who've lost loved ones because of alcohol related accidents. It especially hurts to see my own children under the influence. In our community, being under the influence is a daily routine and I often sit and wonder when will this trend will ever end. I'm not the only one who's hurting considering the daily circumstances. I know for a fact that a lot of community members (especially children) are hurt by seeing the things that go on daily, but no-one seems or should I say we seem unable to do something about it. As I write this, I think about the future generations and the yet unborn if the problems we are facing now aren't corrected at this present day, what will happen? We've lost several community members in the last few years due to alcohol related accidents. Will we have to loose a few more people before anything is done about our present day situation? From a very concerned parent and grandparent.
